THE SOCIETY
The Society was founded in 1909.
Currently, the Society holds three Any Variety Retriever Field Trials each year, including a two-day Open stake which carries a qualification for the International Gundog League's annual Retriever Championship.
The Society does not hold Gundog Working Tests, although it may occasionally hold training events in the Spring and Summer months
The Society is affiliated to the Kennel Club (KC ID no.691).

MEMBERSHIP
The membership application form is available in the Download section below.
Membership applications are welcomed throughout the year but are only considered at the Society's AGM, after which applicants are notified of the outcome of their application.
Members receive preference in the draw for the Society's Field Trials.
The Society does not offer joint membership. If a dog is jointly owned, both owners must be a member of the Society in order to receive preference in the draw.
Subscriptions of £10 are payable annually on 1 March.
A joining fee of £5 is also levied with the initial membership application.

NOVICE HANDLERS
If you, as the owner/handler, and/or your dog do not meet the following criteria, please refrain from entering Field Trials until all have been achieved:
I have helped at a field trial;
I have read the current copy of the ‘J’ Regulations and any amendments;
I have had my dog out on shooting days;
My dog has picked wounded game;
My dog is steady to shot off the lead;
My dog is steady, off the lead, when another dog is sent for a retrieve; and
As far as I am aware, my dog has no recurring eliminating faults.
The Kennel Club has produced the following Code of Best Practice for Retriever Field Trial Competitors. Please consider this before entering the Society's Field Trials.
